This news story is obtained from San Francisco Chronicle. It is talking about the world’s oldest man celebrates his 113th birthday in Japan.
The reasons why I think this news story begins with narrative lead is much better than with summary lead are as below.
1) This is a soft news. The news doesn’t contain the absolute importance that people have to know. That is, it’s not like breaking news which needs to start with a summary lead to give readers an “immediate” idea of the content.
2) The news story just reveals anecdotage in other country. Using narrative lead can be more vivid for readers.
3) Using narrative lead in this news story can make people read it with a relaxed attitude.
4) This is not very serious news. Narrative lead can not only draw readers into this story more easily but also the news story itself is more acceptable.

Reaction & Thoughts
This is my first time to compose an article after interviewing someone. It’s a very good experience for me. I prepared 10 questions for this interview in advance; however, I did not ask Jesse all of these questions. I didn’t ask Jesse one by one of these questions. On the contrary, I chose one of them and according to Jesse’s response; I asked him other related questions. Speaking of the note that I took, I usually wrote certain key words which not only can save time for me but also remind me some points later when I composed an article. Surely, some other questions would pop out when I was in the middle of this article so I e-mailed to Jesse to ask more information. Generally speaking, since I had sufficient information about Jesse, I didn’t have too much trouble writing this article.
About the article written on me, I think Jesse strongly and successfully expressed my future plan by quoting my words. Besides, the title of this article, “mastering PR,” really makes me feel a little shy.
If someday I was interviewed for an article, but it didn’t get published, I wouldn’t think it’s a big deal for me. Every article has its own value. It doesn’t mean that it’s valueless if it didn’t get published. If someday I interviewed someone but it did not actually turn in the article, I would feel a little disappointed. Since I’ve done by best to obtain information from somebody for composing an article, I surely hope to get some feedback from my readers.

Become Acquainted With Me – Yu-Jou Serene Yeh
SAN FRANCISCO, CA. (Aug. 28, 2008) - Yu-Jou Yeh is my name. In Chinese, Yu expresses “rain” Jou represents “soft or tame” and my family name, Yeh, means “leaf.” Therefore, in most people’s minds, I am thought of as a girl who is as meek as a lamb. In fact, I am not quiet at all! Likewise my nickname in America is Serene, which also indicates quietness. In general, it seems that I have a deep relationship with the noun, wildness, as the opposite of what I am named.
My Hometown
I come from Kaohsiung, the southern part of Taiwan Island. People from the south are friendly and full of much passion for their lives. I grew in the passionate environment of southern Taiwan. My personalities are energy, activity and optimism, which are the opposite of the meaning of my name.
Study Process
Since I am from Taiwan, Mandarin is my native language. In addition, owing to my undergraduate major, I can speak a little Spanish as well. My education process has always been overflowing with “discoveries,” “surprise” and “challenges.” My university major in foreign language helps me understand that language is not only a tool that facilitates communication, but also an efficient instrument employed by the communication media. With progress in science and technology in recent years, the mass media has played an important role in people’s daily life. After four years of university life there, I got a Bachelor of Art degree in Spanish & Literature. Besides, I also took some classes about public relations before which made me realize that public relations is important in marketing. A good public relations planner can communicate with the public successfully.
Future Plans
After pursuing journalism certificate at Skyline College, I believe that I will have stronger writing skills and more sensitive sense to compose an appropriate press release. I plan to join integrated marketing communications or public relations filed in the future. When companies need to launch a new product or service, I will conduct market research first. And then, based on customers’ need and companies’ request, I can arrange a press release or feature story to make those potential customers understand more about the new service or product. Surely, I can also analyze the effect from other news release for my company. Tyron Edwards once said, “Thoughts lead on to purposes; purposes go forth in action.” Hence, I will do my best not only to work hard on my studies but also broaden my horizons as well.
